Reality TV star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is reportedly making the most of his time behind bars. Almost three months into his eight-month sentence for tax evasion, Sorrentino is said to be “having the time of his life” in prison, according to his Jersey Shore costar Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.
During an interview at her store, The Snooki Shop, Polizzi described Sorrentino’s experience in prison, stating that he’s enjoying activities such as playing Bingo and helping others recover. She also mentioned that they are able to communicate with Sorrentino through email and that he spends a lot of his time in the gym, suggesting that he may come out of prison in better shape than when he entered.
Sorrentino, along with his brother Marc, was indicted for tax offenses in September 2014 after allegedly failing to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in income from 2010 to 2012. In January 2018, Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion and was subsequently sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of supervised release. His brother Marc was sentenced to two years in prison.
Sorrentino was also ordered to complete 500 hours of community service, pay $123,913 in restitution (which he has already paid), and a $10,000 fine. He reported to the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York on January 15, 2019.
In an update shared by Sorrentino’s wife Lauren via his Twitter account, she revealed that he is “doing great” since beginning his sentence and thanked all of his fans for their support.
Overall, the reaction to Sorrentino’s time in prison has been mixed. While some may view his positive attitude and productive activities as a commendable way of serving his sentence, others may argue that it downplays the seriousness of his crime and the impact of tax evasion on society.
