Cassie Files $30 Million Lawsuit Against Sean “Diddy” Combs Over Abuse, Violence and Sex Trafficking During Relationship

The music industry is rocked by a $30 million lawsuit filed by singer Cassie against music mogul and former boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs. The explosive court documents accuse Combs of a “cycle of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking” that allegedly took place during their relationship. Cassie, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura, filed the lawsuit under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, just a week before the window for lawsuits was set to close on Nov. 23. The law grants survivors of sexual assault that happened when they were 18 or older a one-year window to sue their abusers, regardless of when the abuse occurred. This has led to a massive increase in pursuing claims and awareness under the act, according to William Rivera, interim executive director at the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

The civil lawsuit describes Combs as being “prone to uncontrollable rage,” and accuses him of beating Ventura “savagely” on multiple occasions. The suit also alleges that Combs “forced her to find male escorts online and then engage in sex acts with male sex workers under the influence of drugs he introduced to her, and raped her in 2018 after she tried to leave him.” In response, an attorney for Combs called the allegations “baseless and outrageous lies,” and claimed that Ventura is “seeking a payday.”

This case has shed light on the Adult Survivors Act, which has provided many survivors with the opportunity to seek justice for past abuses. Wendy Murphy, a former federal sex crimes prosecutor and professor of sexual violence law, has highlighted the importance of this legislation. She emphasized how it allows survivors to have their day in court and brings attention to the unique suffering that victims endure. This case has sparked a conversation around the need for more awareness campaigns and free legal assistance to support survivors without financial barriers.

Opinion paragraph:
This case serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of abuse and the importance of providing survivors with platforms to seek justice. It also highlights the need for ongoing conversations, awareness campaigns, and support systems for survivors. The Adult Survivors Act has provided a crucial opportunity for many to come forward and seek justice, but there is still work to be done in terms of providing survivors with the necessary resources and support to navigate the legal process.
