Day 68 – Hearthstone

World of Warcraft was one of the games that sparked the rise of PC gaming, being one of the best MMOs ever. With such a large following and so many fanatical fans, surely a sequel would be impossible to get right? Well, let me introduce you to Hearthstone.

This was clearly something Blizzard realised, hence why this WoW spin-off is close to the universe and its lore but couldn’t be further apart from its gameplay and genre. Taking this massive property and making a card game out of it was a bold move, however it has paid off, with millions of people playing and enjoying Hearthstone. I can happily say I am one of those people.

Considering that this is only a card game, the depth of its story and ties to the Wow world are plentiful. Each card is a spell, creature or item taken straight from the original game, and your antagonist’s reactions to your card placements not only provide help and hints for you, but also give some background to the characters.

The mechanics are fun, with each card battle bringing an enemy with new tactics and card sets; choosing how to play each fight properly is key to having any chance of victory. The sounds are brilliant, especially the funny voice lines delivered by arrogant and cocky enemies. The graphics are also nice but due to their simplicity there is nothing too astounding about them.

Overall, I would say this is a great game and is very addictive. If you like WoW this is a great extension that takes little effort but lots of thought.
